Bone Density Scans
At Seven Oaks Women’s Center, we use the most advanced methodology to screen and monitor for the development and treatment of osteopenia or osteoporosis. A bone density test, or DEXA scan, is a simple, painless procedure in which you lie flat on a comfortable exam table while the density of lower back and hip bones is measured. Our GE Lunar DEXA scan machine is located on the second floor next to our sonogram exam rooms. Our expertly trained staff will make sure that your readings are consistent and reliable so your physician can determine if medical therapy is indicated or if changes need to be made in your current treatment plan.
For your appointment, in most cases, you can remain in your normal clothes although you will have to remove belt buckles, buttons or jewelry from the area examined. The scan usually takes no more than 10 minutes. The report will be sent to your physician for review and you will either be contacted or be seen at a follow up visit to discuss the results.
