Experience as a Nutritional Counselor
The majority of my professional experience in the field of nutrition has been clinical in nature – providing outpatient medical
nutrition therapy to patients with chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
I’ve enjoyed working in the community at health centers that primarily serve high-risk, low-income patients. I’ve spent several
years working with the WIC program in Texas and Missouri, counseling pregnant and breastfeeding women and helping them establish healthy
eating habits in their young children.
I enjoy variety in my work, and currently provide nutrition services at the Seven Oaks Women’s Center, Spectrum Athletic Clubs,
UTSA’s Campus Recreation Center and CentroMed’s WIC program. I’m passionate about exercise and love the outdoors. One of my
favorite activities is hiking with my husband, kids, and dog. Despite my thorough knowledge of the science of nutrition, I’ve
got an out-of-control sweet tooth!
I advocate a step-by-step, goal-oriented approach in achieving nutritional wellness and maintenance of a healthy body weight. My role in
this individualized process is to provide technical expertise, guidance, suggestions, and support, while facilitating the goal-setting
process.
I pay special attention to my clients' food likes/dislikes as well as their current lifestyles and habits as I assist them in making
appropriate, realistic, and attainable goals - aimed at LONG TERM SUCCESS!
I've had experience counseling individuals of various ethnic backgrounds and ages, as well as those with different diseases. Making
eating/exercise/lifestyle changes is not always an easy process to undertake, but with the right help, positive changes are possible,
and definitely worth the effort.
Eating a complete balanced diet while exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight can eventually become easy and
fulfilling, both physically and emotionally.
